TopEase XBench Version 6.2: data volumes and usability

TopEase XBench 6.2 brings incremental functionality that increases support for enterprise-scale models and the associated volumes of data.  User-interface enhancements go with the data handling and other elements of functionality.

  • New HTML editor for use in TopEase Designer and TopEase Webexplorer
  • New integrated process mapper to for processes and value-chains
  • LDAP integration / single sign-on
  • TopEase Watchdog for server surveillance
  • Automated patch process
  • Integration of a relational database
  • Optimized cost management

New HTML editor offers more freedom of design

The formatting options of the new HTML editor are almost as extensive as the options found in normal text processing programs. Apart from the standards, such as text formatting, bullet lists and text alignment, tables can now also be formatted and aligned more or less as one wishes. Format templates and design templates for tables facilitate the design of a standard layout in line with corporate design. The HTML editor thus provides for professional design of HTML pages and Word documents generated from TopEase.
Texts written in Microsoft Word can be handled without any problem using the new HTML editor according to TopEase.

A format correction deletes all redundant Word formatting so that only the desired formatting is retained.

The integrated spellchecker facilitates the quality assurance of the written text.

Interactivity of the web explorer has been extended

The HTML editor is not only used in TopEase Designer. In TopEase Webexplorer, too, it will be possible to edit all text fields of an object in the future using the HTML editor – subject to the relevant authorization profile. The changes made will be saved in the TopEase model on the server.

In addition to the formatting options, the HTML editor also offers the option of creating object links to other objects in the TopEase model.

Personalized WebExplorer - TopEase myZone

With TopEase myZone the WebExplorer offers a functionality to personalize your WebExplorer view. Depending on the portal settings defined in the TopEase XChange Administrator, every user of the TopEase WebExplorer has a personal myZone section where he can add those TopEase objects which are of particular importance to him. This can be done by means of the TopEase Designer or by selecting the “add to myZone”-icon (), which is provided with every object in the Webexplorer.
With myZone the TopEase user always has all relevant information at hand without digging in the complex structures of a comprehensive enterprise model.

Graphics editor for process design according BPMN

Apart from modelling via object templates, the TopEase Designer will also support graphic modelling in the future.
The new graphics editor enables processes, activities and value chains (VCs) to be graphically modelled and linked to each other as shapes – comparable with modelling in Microsoft Visio or iGrafx Flowcharter. Needless to say, the TopEase Designer automatically sees to it that the corresponding TopEase objects are correctly managed both consistently and methodically. The drafting and modelling of processes and VCs will be substantially facilitated by the option of graphic modelling.

TopEase 6.2 supports BPMN.

LDAP integration / single sign-on

The central administration of access rights is especially important when TopEase is used in large companies. Through the direct linking of TopEase to LDAP, authentication for TopEase users and user groups can now be managed on the central LDAP server. Changes in access rights take effect in real time, so that rights can be assigned to or withdrawn from a user at any time.
This LDAP integration also facilitates a single sign-on: when logging on to the system, the user is automatically authenticated also for the use of TopEase models and TopEase Webexplorer models.

Server surveillance with TopEase Watchdog

TopEase Watchdog monitors the status of the TopEase XChange server and provides information remotely about the execution of scheduled server jobs. When TopEase Watchdog is started, a corresponding icon is displayed in the Windows system tray. As soon as server problems occur (availability, job execution, etc.) this is interactively displayed for the user. TopEase Watchdog thus makes it substantially easier for the TopEase administrator to monitor the TopEase XChange server. And server downtimes are reduced.

Automation of update processes

To make it easier to install updates, the TopEase XChange Administrator now offers an automatic update process. The update process automatically shuts down the TopEase XChange server, installs the new update and then restarts the server. This makes a update easier and reduces the downtime of the TopEase XChange server for updating.

Management of large quantities of data in a database

More and more TopEase customers maintain TopEase models in which tens or hundreds of thousands of objects are stored with multiple links. To manage this quantity of data, TopEase XBench Version 6.2 supports the use of an external, relational database as an alternative to the data repository integrated to date. This means that it is possible to maintain and handle models containing a substantial quantity of data without any restriction to system performance.

Through the use of a database, several scattered TopEase models can also be maintained on the same database. In a multinational company, for example, staff in Zurich can work on a server model in Zurich while staff in London can use a server model in London. The data for both models are saved in a central database in Frankfurt. The model data in London and Zurich are always kept up to date and consistent through the replication mechanism of the database. In a first step, Version 6.2 of TopEase XBench supports the use of Oracle databases.

New search function

An optimized and extended search function, which is used both in TopEase Designer and also in TopEase Webexplorer, allows e.g. the linking of search parameters.

Optimized cost management

Version 6.2 contains a new, extended cost management feature with which e.g. process costs, infrastructure costs, organizational costs, etc. can be easily administered. Costs are automatically aggregated and converted by means of parameterizable modelling rules. The powerful integrated Chart Library also permits a user-friendly, graphic evaluation of the relevant data.
